Bunionectomy, Minimally Invasive, Bunionectomies Lapiplasty: There are multiple approached to bunion surgery. Conservative care is always implemented initially which will include therapy to strengthen the muscles around the joint. Supportive orthoses will reduce pain and improve abnormal biomechanics that lead to the bunion deformity. And corrective taping techniques can delay surgery. Please see our on-line videos. Surgery when necessary is dependent on the deformity. We perform simple and complex bunionectomies minimally invasive bunionectomies, and Lapiplasty. Minimal Invasive Bunionectomies: Specialized bone screws have been developed for minimally invasive bone surgery. Complex hardware is necessary this type of surgery. “We are proud to be among the select clinics in California to achieve the Center of Excellence designation,” said Dr. Bruce Lerman, Dr. Lawrence Chen, Dr. Nha Pham, and Dr. Paul Marinos of The Foot and Ankle Medical Group. “This recognition reflects our expertise with this groundbreaking procedure, which offers a more effective solution for bunion correction.” The Lapiplasty procedure addresses the bunion in three dimensions, correcting the root cause rather than simply removing the “bump.” Patients typically recover in half the time compared to traditional bunion surgery, allowing them to return to their daily activities much sooner.

Pediatric Care

Podopediatrics at The Foot and Ankle Medical Group

When it comes to your child’s health and comfort, you want the best care possible. At The Foot and Ankle Medical Group, we specialize in pediatric foot care, providing expert treatment for growing feet. Our experienced podiatrists diagnose and treat a range of conditions affecting the feet and ankles, from flat feet to gait abnormalities, ensuring your child receives the right care at every stage.

Children’s feet are unique, and proper care is essential for healthy development. Our team works closely with your child’s primary care physician or pediatrician to create a personalized treatment plan, using conservative approaches whenever possible.

Common pediatric conditions we treat include: Pediatric flatfoot deformity: While flatfeet are common in young children, as the child ages a healthy arch should appear as the fat pad thins and the boney architecture presents itself. The flatfoot hyper pronated left untreated can lead to increasing foot pain as the child’s age and weight increases. Timing in children is so important. Parents must take into consideration school and athletics when it comes to corrective surgery. For example, subtalar joint arthroeresis needs to be performed early in development preferably two year prior to boney fusion. Earlier than 12 in boys and 11 in girls.

  • Kidner foot, also known as accessory navicular bone, is an extra bone in the foot that can cause pain and discomfort. Symptoms include a bony bump on the inside of the midfoot, Tenderness to the touch, Pain when walking or exercising, Flatfoot, and Difficulty fitting into shoes.
  • Tarsal coalition (rigid flatfoot): Stiff flatfoot that limits motion and can lead to pain or arthritis later in life.
  • Gait abnormalities: In-toeing, out-toeing, limping, or toe-walking that doesn’t align with typical developmental patterns.
  • Skin conditions: Including warts and ingrown toenails, which can cause discomfort and affect activity.

At The Foot and Ankle Medical Group, we prioritize your child’s comfort and well-being by using conservative treatments whenever possible, reserving surgery for more complex cases. We are dedicated to keeping your child healthy and active, supporting their growth with the best pediatric foot care available.

Dr. Bruce Lerman is considered an expert in the development of growth factor therapy and its application in wound care. He started the O’Connor Wound Care Clinic over 20 years ago. Now considered the “Mecca” of wound care on the west coast. Currently he is the Medical Director of the Clinic. He was a consulting physician for Novartis tissue engineering committee, Organogenesis bioengineered skin products, Spiracur leader of negative pressure therapy and the newer amniotic products. Those initial principles of using growth factors to heal complex wound has over the past 20 years expanded to many areas of foot and ankle advanced treatment and surgery.

PRP therapy utilizes your body’s natural healing power by concentrating platelets from your own blood. When injected into the affected area, these platelets release growth factors that accelerate tissue repair and regeneration. PRP injections are effective for treating conditions such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, and other soft tissue injuries, providing a natural and minimally invasive solution with minimal downtime. Our injection therapy is

Stem Cell therapy like Neox Flo leverages the potent healing capabilities of stem cells derived from amniotic tissue. This treatment is particularly beneficial for chronic foot and ankle conditions, including arthritis, tendon injuries, and degenerative issues. By delivering a rich blend of growth factors and anti-inflammatory agents, Neox Flo stimulates the body’s repair processes, reducing pain and enhancing mobility.

Vitamin B complex is essential for nerve function and regeneration. Our targeted Vitamin B complex injections deliver crucial nutrients directly to the affected areas, promoting nerve repair, reducing inflammation, and providing pain relief. This therapy is especially beneficial for patients with neuropathy due to diabetes, vitamin deficiencies, chemotherapy, Charcot Marie Tooth, or other underlying conditions.

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is a non-invasive procedure that uses targeted sound waves to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. By enhancing blood flow and reducing inflammation, ESWT accelerates recovery and provides long-lasting relief from pain.
